Ciao!

I’m Laura and I am a Science Communicator.

After being a researcher in applied geophysics for a few years, I decided to continue my studies and to improve my knowledge in the field of science communication. Thus, I attended the Professional Master Course in Science Communication “Franco Prattico” at SISSA (Trieste). This is way today I like telling science through magazine articlespodcaststhe organisation of festivals and events and institutional communication. Currently I work as Science Communicator at SISSA Medialab, but before that I was communication officer at the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padova (Italy) and author for the online science magazine OggiScienza. If you want to learn more, here is my portfolio (in Italian).

Before doing this I graduated with honors in Geology and Technical Geology and I earned a PhD in Earth Sciences, in both cases from the University of Padua (Italy). Then, I became a postdoc researcher in Applied Geophysics. In other words, I used to study the subsoil indirectly, trying to understand what was there without using invasive methods. A sort of treasure hunt, but without digging.

My favourite topics

As my background explains, I am really passionate about Geology. But I do not write only about earthquakesvolcanos and mountains (some of my favourite topics, of course). I like describing how Geology is part of our travels, is in the products we use in our everyday life, is in art, in music… in everything that surrounds us, even if we don’t notice it.

But not just Geology

In my free time, and also in my “occupied” time, I am always wearing my headphones. I spend a lot of time listening to musictalking about musicdiscussing about music, or maybe just going to some gigs! And if you have any suggestion, please, feel free to share it with me.
