I am Laura and I am a science communicator.

After being a researcher in applied geophysics for a few years, I decided to continue my studies and to improve my knowledge in the field of science communication. Thus, I attended the Professional Master Course in Science Communication “Franco Prattico” at SISSA (Trieste). This is way today I like telling science through magazine articles, podcasts, the organisation of Festivals and events and institutional communication. Currently I work communication officer at the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padova (Italy). If you want to learn more, here is my CV.

Before doing this I graduated with honors in Geology and Technical Geology and I earned a PhD in Earth Sciences, in both cases from the University of Padova. Then, I became a postdoc researcher in Applied Geophysics. In other words, I used to study the subsoil indirectly, trying to understand what was there without using invasive methods. A sort of treasure hunt, but without digging.

As my background explains, I am really passionate about Geology. But I do not write only about earthquakes, volcanos and mountains (some of my favourite topics, of course): I like describing how Geology is part of our travels, is in the products we use in our everyday life, is in art, in music… in everything that surrounds us, even if we don’t notice it.

But not just Geology!

In my free time, and also in my “occupied” time, I am always wearing my headphones. I spend a lot of time listening to music, talking about music, discussing about music, or maybe just going to some gigs! And if you have any suggestion, please, feel free to share it with me.
